HP Photosmart 6510 e-All-In-One Wireless Printer Review
HP Photosmart 6510 Printer Review

If you are not quite convinced with the Photosmart 5510, then HP have released the new more expensive HP Photosmart 6510 printer, which in addition to its cheaper sibling offers a second paper tray and duplex two sided printing.

The HP Photosmart 6510 includes a 6cm touch screen LCD monitor to operative the printer with or without a PC. View and print photographs from a Flash Memory card using the available Multimedia slots. Data can be uploaded via Cloud printing, Airprint, and HP ePrint. Sadly missing however is a Pictbridge USB port?

Just like the cheaper model, the HP Photosmart 6510 has a flat-bed scanner with a resolution of 1200x1200dpi and a print resolution of up to 4800x1200dpi. The scanner may be a little slow compared to other machines; however it does produce nice results. Sadly there is no automatic document feeder ADF. Print quality is exception for text, graphics and photographs, but strangely slower than the 5510 model?

The new Photosmart 6510 uses HP 364 Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow Ink cartridges. We would recommend you use the HP 364XL high yield cartridges not contain much more ink than the standard capacity ones supplied with the printer. Unfortunately they are quite expensive considering they do not contain a print head, which is built into the printer. Only compatible and refillable cartridges without chips (you have to transfer chip from original cartridge) can be purchased, however the ink monitor will always read as low. Compatibles with microchips are not currently available.

HP has introduced the auto on/off feature that uses up to 26 times less energy than the traditional sleep mode. For example you may want to email and save a file to the printer from your mobile device, then print it later. The auto on/off feature allows you to do this providing you have an Internet connection to the printer.

At more than double the price of its cheaper cousin the HP Photosmart 5510, you may struggle to justify the higher purchase price for just the extra paper tray and duplex printing option. Even then there are better machines available with lower running costs. The HP 364 cartridges can be painfully expensive if you are a heavy user, and who would buy a printer costing over £100 knowing that the genuine cartridges are expensive, and with no compatibles being available with microchips! Only in six to nine months when the printer price has been slashed to half will it become a valid proposition. Until then there are plenty of other models that offer similar print quality, faster printing, and cheaper running costs. For instance take a look at the Canon Pixma MG5250.
